  omg my head exploded!in this months broadcast - splian goes off on how much care the wt in making sure its facts are correct, and how they make sure their quotes are not taking from people who have a bad reputation or have an agenda.

  and that the make sure its always in context!.

  There is nothing scholarly about JW teachings-- far from it! The idea they are pushing is obviously to answer legitimate criticism that they were misapplying the meaning or inference in the work of serious writers. The result is to give the impression to their captive flock that their nasty propaganda is scholarly and accurate.

  To be authoritative you need to accurately quote, not just from any old writer but from academic sources which are peer reviewed. JW writers entirely miss the importance of this.

  What though is the use of meticulously quoted books for the purpose of untruthful propaganda?

  Note they do not try to discover anything new or push the boundaries of knowledge let alone delve into the true origins of Bible texts. Their whole purpose is to justify their precious doctrines which are equivalent to the useless goods which snake oil merchants peddle.

  there is much speculation about our perfect life ahead.

  a big way jw's are wrong is they do not allow for the human need to specualte on this life ahead.

  except for governing body, no one else can speculate.

  One of the many nauseating things about the JW org is that it cannot resist preaching to its members at all times!

  Instead of being a straightforward practical manual in common language for living at HQ, it coerces staff by using out of context quotes from the Bible.

  What a dire cult!

  Understanding Armageddon

  so will armageddon be the biblical one we read about or is it probably going to be a government ban on christians that we will perceive as armageddon?

  There was supposed to have been a significant war at the plain of Megiddo. For the locals it became a byword for a decisive war. Later religiously minded writers used the war at Megiddo as a picture of final conflict between good and evil. This was purely a religious vision not based in fact or reason.

  Not a million miles away (2450 miles actually!) from Megiddo in Northern India sits another battlefield in a region called Kurukshetra, the site of the greatest battle in the Mahabharata. To Hindus this much older epic war carries the same meaning as Armageddon did to the inhabitants of Canaan-- but stories are not prophetic and there is no reason to believe in a big showdown between good and evil.

  The whole belief thing is rooted in imagination and human yearnings for something better..

  Biblical incidents that bothered me.

  i wanted to discuss the (supposed) biblical events that disturbed me a lot when i was a jw.

  these incidents were just read and discussed in the kingdom hall as if these are normal and justified, which clearly weren't.

  perhaps this led to my awakening.

  Allyson I'm sure that you have had to struggle already with your determination to assert your identity. You have found some comfort in the teachings of JWs and on top of that you have found them to be good company.

  For all the appearances of that religion they only want to convert people to their beliefs because that is their validation of being right in a world which disagrees with them.

  Most of us here were either born into JWs or became one and all of us here agree that their teachings and methods are wrong at best and hurtful even lethal at worst. (Their rule denying blood transfusions for example). Their promises sound appealing but are unattainable; paradise is a utopian dream.

  You will never find genuine appreciation or endorsement of your particular situation from JWs who are all screwed up by blind loyalty to their chosen group.

  I suggest for what it's worth that you re-think the company you are relying on for your validation and peace of mind.

  Instead; be yourself--you will never be allowed to do that if you become a JW.

  What do you think is the origin of Giants and/or Sasquatch?

  genesis says a lot about both pre-flood and post-flood giants.the really big nasty ones drowned in the flood but there were lots of others the israelites had to overcome including the king of basham with his 11 foot iron bed.people nowadays are much smaller and i think its due in part to us losing more and more of adams perfection.

  i turn my attention to the animals that went onboard the ark but are as yet undiscovered.

  during president knorr's time the panda bear was discovered in a market place in china and eventually an american team tracked them down in the wild.

  Good points EA, now you mention it, it was disturbing. I used to wince and metaphorically shake my head at these atrocities but stupidly accepted that's what it was like back then.

  JWs are taught not to bring their brain into the KH..............

  Watchtower Loses an Appeal

  it has zealously advocated its position and lost multiple times.

  yet, it cavalierly refuses to acknowledge the consequences of these losses and the validity of the court's orders requiring it to produce documents in response to request number 12. and, in a further act of defiance, watchtower informed the court that it would not comply with the march 25, 2016 order 39 requiring it to produce documents responsive to request number 12. the court, following lopez, supra, 246 cal.app.4th 566, as an incremental step toward terminating sanctions if watchtower persists in its unjustified conduct, imposed monetary sanctions.

  This arrogant cult imagines it is above the law. I'm pleased the court has noticed this and commented on their cavalier attitude. For this they are being punished, very satisfactory!

  Also note that the WT is described as "recalcitrant" and their lawyers are clearly ineffectual by repeating failed arguments. (Just like JWs do on the doors!)

  Does anyone else think as I do that they are beginning to act as if nothing matters any more?

  Have they seen the writing on the wall?
